Preparing for a new installation

How to prepare before an installation*

Replacing your windows and doors is a great decision that adds aesthetic and financial benefits to your home. Nowadays, modern windows feature the latest glass and profile technology which helps reduce the cost of energy bills. The process of installation will vary for each project, however rest assured that at Ada Windows we aim to make it as smooth possible.

To do this, we’ll need your assistance prior to installation:

1

Schedule the installation at a convenient time

The installation process can be disruptive to your daily routine so we’ll try to keep to your schedule and inform you should there be changes. It is advisable to keep pets and children away from the working area.

2

Parking arrangement

If you have a driveway please leave this clear for our vehicles to get as close as possible to your property as the fitters will need to get tools from the vehicle. If there are no accessible driveways and the area is subject to parking restrictions, please provide our fitters with a visitors parking permits as parking the vehicle far away may prolong the installation process.

3

Clear access points

Windows and doors are relatively large items so we’ll need the access corridors and stairs cleared of any obstruction. If the ground leading up to your home is wet and muddy then it’s worth sweeping this clear before the installers arrive to prevent any slips or trips when carrying your windows and doors.

4

Clear the working area

When the fitters arrive, they will want to crack on with installation. They will lay down floor protection material prior to removing the windows.  You will need to move valuable objects, furniture and ornaments away from the working area and into a safe place to prevent any dust and damage to these items whilst also allowing more space for the fitters. This will also save the installers time and make installation quicker.

5

Take down blinds and curtains

Any curtains, blinds, poles and decorations hanging adjacent or fairly close to the working area will need to be removed prior to installation so that the fitters have direct access to the frames.

6

Clear the floor

Prior to installation, make the sure the floor is clear of any small objects such as toys and clothing. This will enable the fitters to carry the heavy frames and glass without worrying about slipping or tripping.

7

How long will installation take?

Replacing windows and doors is a complex job so there is no set time frame as it will vary according to type of property, quantity and complexity of frames. In addition, it will depend on whether the points above have been fulfilled prior to visiting. Whilst there are various stages to the installation process, there could also be unforeseen factors that hasten or speed up this process.

8

How much mess and damage will there be?

The amount of mess and damage is very much dependant on the property type, the fitters installing the frames and any unforeseen matters during the installation process. As with any major home improvement you should expect some mess, damage and disruption so it’s important that you choose an installation company that aims to leave your property clean and tidy. At Ada Windows Ltd, the feedback we receive from clients is just how tidy we leave the property. If, rendering bits fall off or it cracks around the frames during installation we’ll re-render or do some filling; if glass breaks, we’ll replace it. We take away the rubbish produced from the work and dispose it at our site.
