Ideal for listed buildings and properties in conservation areas, our secondary glazing provides a range of benefits. It acts as an additional barrier against external noise, reducing disturbances and creating a peaceful environment. Furthermore, it enhances heat retention, insulation, and energy efficiency, making your space more comfortable while reducing energy costs.
Security is a top priority, and our secondary glazing adds an extra layer of protection to your property, deterring potential intruders. Additionally, it helps combat condensation issues, ensuring a healthier indoor environment.
Our secondary glazing solutions are suitable for both residential and commercial applications. Whether you’re looking to improve your home or enhance the performance of your office space, our aesthetically pleasing secondary glazing will seamlessly blend with your surroundings, complementing the charm of your period windows without drawing unnecessary attention.
Secondary Glazing Types

Horizontal
Sliding
Among our product range, horizontal sliding secondary glazing stand out as a remarkably versatile option. They can be customised with 2, 3, or 4 sliding panels, providing flexibility to suit different requirements. These windows are lightweight and incredibly user-friendly, allowing for easy removal of panels when cleaning becomes necessary.

Vertical
Sliding
Vertical sliders are highly sought after when it comes to secondary glazing. To ensure a seamless integration, the new secondary windows mimic the transom bars of the existing external windows, resulting in a discreet and unobtrusive appearance. They are designed with counter-balances, offering effortless and smooth operation for the user.

Lift
Out
For those external windows that are infrequently used but still require periodic cleaning or maintenance, lift out secondary glazing offer a simple and inconspicuous solution. These windows feature a removable panel that sits independently within the master frame, making maintenance a breeze while maintaining a clean aesthetic.

Hinged
Casement
Hinged secondary glazing offer complete access to the external windows, making them an excellent choice for secondary glazing. With no transom bars or sight lines within the window, this style ensures a discreet appearance. Additionally, casement secondary glazing can also be applied to doors, extending its functionality.
Noise Reduction
Secondary glazing is a highly effective solution for reducing noise levels in buildings. By adding an extra layer of glazing to existing windows, it creates a buffer zone that helps to block out external noise, such as traffic, construction, or loud neighbors. The air gap between the primary window and the secondary glazing acts as a sound barrier, minimizing sound transmission and creating a quieter indoor environment. With various styles and options available, secondary glazing can be tailored to suit different needs and preferences, providing a significant improvement in noise reduction and enhancing overall comfort and tranquility within the space.
Thermal Insulation
Secondary glazing offers notable benefits in terms of thermal insulation for buildings. By installing an additional layer of glazing onto existing windows, it creates an insulating barrier that helps to reduce heat loss and improve energy efficiency. The air gap between the primary window and the secondary glazing acts as an extra layer of insulation, preventing cold drafts and heat transfer. This enhanced thermal performance helps to maintain a more comfortable and consistent indoor temperature, reducing the need for excessive heating or cooling and ultimately lowering energy costs. With secondary glazing, buildings can enjoy improved thermal insulation, creating a more energy-efficient and environmentally friendly living or working environment.
Enhanced Security
With the increasing incidence of domestic burglaries, it is crucial to prioritise security measures. Most break-ins happen spontaneously and are often perpetrated by non-professional criminals. Doors and windows serve as the easiest entry points for intruders, particularly in properties with single-glazed windows or older double glazing, which are perceived as vulnerable targets.
Secondary double glazing offers an effective solution to bolster security in both commercial and residential properties. Acting as an additional barrier, secondary glazing creates a formidable obstacle that deters even the most determined thieves. Designed with tough aluminium frames firmly secured in place, it resists forcible removal attempts. Utilising laminated glass further complicates the task for potential intruders, making it extremely difficult to gain access from the outside.

Secondary Glazing: for Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas
When it comes to making changes to a listed building, obtaining Listed Building Consent is often necessary to comply with legal requirements. Alterations, including window and door changes, may require consent due to the potential impact on the building’s character. As the owner, it is your responsibility to apply for Listed Building Consent from the local authority.
Consulting with the authority’s Conservation Officer beforehand can save time and money by ensuring that your proposals align with their requirements. Typically, applications must adhere to a “like with like” approach, matching materials, construction, and finishing. Upgrading to insulated sealed glass units and draught-proofing may be permitted, provided the building’s character is preserved.
Local authorities have control over granting or refusing consent, while English Heritage is notified of applications involving nationally significant buildings.
Conservation Areas, governed by Article 4 Directions, may also require planning permission for secondary glazing. Material choices must align with aesthetic considerations, aiming to closely match the original dimensions, features, and decorative elements.
Discussing your plans with the local authority and obtaining a design guide specific to your area is recommended before submitting an application or if you intended to replace your existing windows.
